Hamilton, Bermuda – The Sophia Federation facilitated a groundbreaking diplomatic and cultural exchange during Mary Prince Holiday weekend (July 29-31, 2022), featuring former U.S. Congresswoman and Ambassador Diane Watson in a series of events that strengthened ties between Ethiopia, the United States, and Bermuda.

The weekend’s activities included attendance at a traditional cricket match, a cultural breakfast at Buna, and a ceremonial flag presentation featuring Ethiopian and American flags to champion peace between the two nations.

A pivotal moment occurred during the Mary Prince Day Cup Match when Ambassador Watson passed her jubilee wisdom “key” barakah to H.E. Huda Hassen Durri, symbolizing the transfer of diplomatic wisdom and peaceful leadership across generations and cultures.

“Ambassador Watson’s presence in Bermuda represents the power of cultural diplomacy and the importance of building personal relationships in international affairs,” said Huda Hassen Durri, Boqorad of the Yehuda=Qore Trust. “Her wisdom and experience continue to guide our efforts toward global peace.”

The weekend culminated in a traditional Bermudian and Harari Ethiopian brunch during the Jubilee Wisdom.X summit, where participants engaged in meaningful dialogue about peace, justice, and cultural understanding.

Ambassador Watson’s participation demonstrates the Sophia Federation’s commitment to leveraging diplomatic relationships to advance peace and understanding between nations. The organization continues to build on these foundations to create lasting partnerships across continents.
